Chuck Gets Laid Off [Cartoon]

  1. Kinda makes you want to puke, doesn't it?

  2. I have been on both sides of the equation.

As an HR executive for a number of years I had to be the bearer of bad news. There is no easy way to do it. I recall once that I'd just delivered the news and ended by saying "I'm sorry." The man looked at me and said "Why are you sorry, you still have a job."

Words are of cold comfort at a time like that. For my part they were never "phony." I tried very hard to let the person know that I understood and that I didn't always agree with the action taken.

I was downsized 3 times during the 1990's and what help me keep my sanity was learning not to understand but to accept.

The Buddha said "There is no path to happiness. Happiness is the Path."

  3. You're exactly right, John. We are all victims of a financial/economic/political juggernaut that is out-of-control and devouring everything in its path -- even to the point of its own extinction.

These are tough times. The last thing we need to be doing is trying to kill each other There is a great need for compassion all around.

Thank you for your insightful, balancing comment. As always, I am honored to call you friend.
